AGRYTECH HACK, 20-22 APRIL 2018, LEBANON

The hackathon

We are proud to present the Agytech Hackathon in Beirut: a 54 hour hackathon, to guide teams to develop prototypes and agri-food solutions. The program is open for Lebanese, Syrians and Palestinians residing in Lebanon. FarmHackNL is proud supporter of the hackathon. We will be be present on the ground, supporting teams with data management, ideation and facilitation. For this hackathon we collaborate with long standing partner Source Institute, who develop peer-to-peer education and empower the world’s next technology entrepreneurs.

It’s the second edition of the Agrytech Hackathon (check out the video of the first edition) is organised by Berytech, with one goal in mind: to offer an exciting opportunity for developers, coders, engineers, data scientists, creatives, innovators, entrepreneurs, professionals, and university students who want to collaborate and innovate in the agriculture and food sectors over the course of one weekend.

The Agryetch Hackathon is aiming to solve different environmental, economic, business, and marketing challenges in the agro-food industry. Ramy Boujawdeh, Deputy General Manager at Berytech and in the lead for the Agrytech hackathon: “In order to realise the full potential of data and technology, we need to commit tech savvy and creative minds to agriculture. Bringing the two worlds together has the ability to redefine agriculture and bring in results that the industry is waiting for. This is why the AgryTech Accelerator is helping startups to grow their idea into successful businesses. As we are mobilising participants for the 2nd batch of the accelerator program, we are organising the AgryTech hackathon from 20th to the 22nd of April”.

Preparing for the hackathon projectmember Aurore Assakar is working to define and prepare the hackathon challenges, which will encompass different sub-sectors of the agriculture and food industry, including forestry, farming, crop production, livestock, poultry, fisheries, and food production. For instance for farmers we will look at creating a simple friendly cost analysis production tool, to help smallholders evaluate and decide on the use of any inputs. The Jabal Aamel Beekeepers Association (جمعية نحالي جبل عامل) (JABA) is acting as challenger, hoping for solutions to allow beekeepers to monitor and track their colonies. And regarding water we hope to develop a tool that makes it possible to calculate evapotranspiration data of each crop, to help define the accurate amount for water for irrigation.

For FarmHackNL the upcoming hackathon in Beirut is an amazing opportunity to connect to the growing global community to encourage collaboration and cooperation to help find innovative uses of data. Keep posted for news on the outcomes of the Agrytech hackathon!
